Cataclysm is a post-apocalyptic roguelike, set in the countryside of New England after a devastating plague of monsters and zombies.
Cataclysm is very different from most roguelikes in many ways. Rather than being set in a vertical, linear dungeon, it is set in an unbounded, 3D world. This means that exploration plays a much bigger role than in most roguelikes, and the game is much less linear. Because the map is so huge, it is actually completely persistant between games. If you die, and start a new character, your new game will be set in the same game world as your last. Like in many roguelikes, you will be able to loot the dead bodies of previous characters; unlike most roguelikes, you will also be able to retrace their steps completely, and any dramatic changes made to the world will persist into your next game. While this makes for interesting depth of play, and the ability to "save" game progress even after death, some prefer to start each game with a freshly generated world. This can be achieved by erasing the contents of the save directory, found in the same folder as the executable. "rm save/*" will erase these files for you.
Cataclysm's gameplay also includes many unique quirks, and the learning curve is somewhat steep, even for those experienced with roguelikes. Included with the game is a tutorial which runs the player through most of the key features. The game also has extensive documentation via the ? command. Pressing ?1 will list all the key commands, which is a good place to start.
It is the day after tomorrow, humanity is dying, and the zombie race is taking over the land. You have survived the initial cataclysm and now you must survive with what little skills and talents you have. Your first order of business is to find tools and weapons.
But be quick about it, the zombies are approaching, you can hear them in the distance. Then you need to decide what to do next. You can flit from house to house in the neighborhood, hoping to not run into any trouble. You can hit up a library, and read some books to increase your skills.
If you are lucky, you may know of a compound nearby where surivors are gathering. If not, you may want to start hiking. But remember, zombies aren't the only things out there. Just be sure to bring provisions.
Also remember to keep your spirits up! If you don't you will never survive. Without good spirits you won't have the gumption to learn or do anything productive at all! After all, what is the point in existing in such a saddened state?
But if you can survive you will become innured to the hardships, and may find exciting things such as bionics, which can give you amazing powers not usually seen in mortal hands.
Or if you are really lucky, you may find a radioactive site, decide to chance fate, and gain a mutation. Usually bad, but sometimes very very good. Who knows, the choice is yours.

Cataclysm est un roguelike post-apocalyptique en ncurses, dont le scénario prend place dans la campagne de la nouvelle Angleterre après une invasion de monstres et de zombies dévastatrice.
Son gameplay comporte de nombreuses bizarreries singulières, et sa courbe d'apprentissage est un plutôt raide, même pour des habitués des roguelikes. Pour faciliter les choses un tutoriel est intégré, mettant le joueur au fait des fonctionnalités clefs. Le jeu comprend aussi une extension de la documentation via la commande "?". En saisissant la commande "?1" le joueur obtient la liste de toutes les commandes clefs, un excellent point de départ pour se familiariser avec le jeu.
"En dépit de leurs apparences, de nombreux roguelikes sont très addictifs et amusants à jouer.
Leur graphisme simple peut masquer des mondes à la complexité rarement atteinte dans d'autres jeux".

Plus de binaire disponible (dommage, la version du 24/09/2012 fonctionnait), il est nécessaire de compiler son source.
📄️ Installation à partir du source du jeu :
Décompressez son source, puis dans son répertoire racine lancez successivement :
$ make
(ou, pour accélérer la compilation, "$ make -j8" si vous disposez d'un processeur 8 threads, à adapter pour vous)
🚀️ LANCEMENT DU JEU :
Dans le répertoire racine du jeu lancez : $ ./cataclysm

L'affichage du terrain reste en partie supérieure gauche de l'écran, il ne sert à rien d'agrandir la fenêtre.
Le jeu semble très élaboré, je n'ai pas approfondi davantage faute de temps.

Sinon, le fork de ce projet, activement maintenu, se nomme Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead (dans le Bottin).
